Mr. Underwood is the founder and managing principal of Flat98 Strategies &
Communications, LLC. The firm specializes in non-profit business consulting and operates
at the intersection of finance and public policy.
Mr. Underwood previously served as the Executive Director and CEO of the American
Bankers Association Securities Association (ABASA). Before joining the ABA, he gained
valuable experience working on Capitol Hill, where he honed his understanding of
legislative processes and the banking regulatory landscape. Additionally, he has worked at
esteemed financial institutions such as Morgan Stanley's London office, where he gained
valuable insights into international banking practices. His experience with the Financial
Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA) and the Bond Dealers of America has further
enhanced his understanding of the intricacies of the financial industry. This expertise
allows him to navigate complex financial landscapes and provide strategic advice to clients
on regulatory matters.
In 2022, Mr. Underwood was named an honoree for the Washington Business Journal's 40
Under 40 Business Leaders in DC. He earned a master’s degree in government and an
MBA from the Johns Hopkins Carey Business School.
